Douglas Company has been a family-owned business since 1956. Bill and Penny Clarke along with St. Claire and Mary Smith began their business in Keene, New Hampshire, where it continues today. Scott Clarke, Bill and Penny's son, joined the company in 1982 and became its president in 1991. He remembers playing on the workroom floor as a little boy while his mother designed patterns at her drafting table and his father cut them out from the material. He's proud to carry on the old New England work ethic.
The success of Douglas Company comes from their unique designs and exceptional materials and craftsmanship. With endearing expressions and that irresistible softness, it's no wonder they refer to their creations as "THE Cuddle Toy". The designers' inspiration may come from all the pets that get to spend their days around the Douglas Company offices. With a menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, goats, llamas, donkeys, horses, ferrets and many others, there's lots of activity to keep the ideas flowing.
